Gentle Thanksgiving and November Updates

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the amazing success of the Vermont Gentle Thanksgiving Potluck this past Sunday. Over 70 attendees came to partake in amazing shared food and community. We cannot even begin to express our joy over this event. You all made it possible. We cannot wait for next year and what we hope will be a wonderful tradition for many years to come! A big huge thank you to the Unitarian Universalist Church in Burlington and their Animal Ministry for being such gracious hosts! Here are some photos from the event. Please forgive the formatting…it’s difficult to get the photos to look pretty in the editing process!

We anticipate our next get together will be in January as we know folks are generally pretty busy during the holidays. But we do have some other events in the works. In December there will be a talk by pattrice jones of VINE Sanctuary on her new book, The Oxen at the Intersection, an account of the Bill and Lou Green Mountain College Scandal of 2012. That will be December 2 at 7pm at Next Chapter Books in Barre. The book is a brilliant piece that examines the intersections of oppressions as well as social psychology. We hope you can make it!

vine bookYou are also invited to a Prohibition Potluck–Party Like It’s 1920! Please join us at Marilyn’s Speakeasy (38 Fairview Rd Apt 2) in Barre on December 6th at 7 o’clock in the evening for a night of food and good, old-fashioned Chicago-style fun. A little party never killed nobody…so bring your delicious (vegan) dish of choice, enjoy a beverage (at your discretion — no Prohis admitted guaranteed!) and dress to kill. Gangsters welcome, please stow your weapons. Appropriate attire & password (to be distributed to registered guests only) required for admittance.

We are also very pleased to announce that we now have an official logo! It is already gracing the header of our website, as many might have noticed, but I will post it here again because we are so very proud of it.

VV logoThanks to VVer and graphic designer, Alysia Catalfamo, for creating that for us. It’s gotten great reception and we will be working on getting out t-shirts for you all to proudly display in the near future.

I (Heidi) was also delighted to be able to attend the Albany VegFest this past weekend the day before the potluck. I regret I didn’t take more pictures, but I was so excited running to different vendors and listening to different speakers that I only got to take pictures of the food (typical). But I was very excited to meet tons of activists and compassionate pioneers. Notably, I got to speak to Will Potter, a prominent activist who is well known for his work with regard to raising awareness with regard to ag-gag laws as well as the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. I plan to contact him soon and see if we can arrange to host him here in Vermont somewhere down the line. I was also able to meet with the leaders of the Albany Vegan Network who were very enthusiastic to hear of our new organization and are looking forward to collaborating on possible future projects. I’m also hoping to get some insight into how to run our own VegFest…. 😉
